Drivers say the design of the Aglinton West Crossroads is creating confusion

Drivers who regularly pass through Agglinton Avenue West and Allen Road intersection are raising complaints about recent design changes that they say they say that there is constant chaos on the road.

“Everything about this intersection goes on in itself,” local resident Horomo Allen said, who lives near the intersection.

He said, “What do I hear while working from home all day, constantly respects and shouts from drivers. It is very stressful to hear that every day, Nonsstop,” he explained.

The noise of frustrated drivers using the intersection is coming out – which was rebuilt by the metrolinx in June 2023 as part of the Saderwell station on the ECLRT line. The changes consisted of a pedestrian island in the middle of the new turn lane and the road – which changing the traffic flow.

“Currently both directions have two turn lanes strictly and are strictly one through the lane in both directions,” Alan explained.

Those who are lodging complaints say that drivers have been confused due to lack of signage.

He said, “Because the streets suddenly merge, drivers are often in the wrong lane because they cannot tell what is due to signage, or what is in its absence,” they said.

Confusion has given rise to traffic accidents. Only last month, a vehicle drove on the island and caught fire. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

“It is only a matter of time until something bad happens,” Alan said.

Residents living on side roads away from Aglinton Avenue have also complained about traffic flows. They say that the drivers are using side roads that are trying and trying to bypass the crowd caused by the intersection redirect.

The city of Toronto controlled the intersection from the metrolinux in 2024 and the staff say they are well aware of the issues. In a recently held public meeting, the authorities discussed ways to improve the intersection and listened directly to the drivers.

A spokesperson told Citynues, “Toronto city Aglinton/Allen accepts capacity issues related to the current design of the intersection as the root cause of traffic congestion in the region.”

The city says it is working on a plan to re -design the intersection.

“To improve the capacity of the motor vehicle, further efforts will require redirection and intersection rebuilding,” the spokesperson said. “The city has recently hired employees dedicated to the evaluation of options for redirect of intersection to improve motor vehicle capacity.”

The results of the study are expected to be early next year.

“Meanwhile, the city is working closely with the area councilors and residents in the surrounding areas to find out opportunities for changes in traffic patterns on local roads,” the city is working closely, “he said,” he said.

Horonomo Alan is one of many people who want to track the project faster.

“I think we are all waiting for a long time and just deploying traffic agents, which the city has done, not enough,” he explained. “Changes need to be done here immediately.”

“Drivers already have enough to pay attention. They don’t want to get anywhere and want to be confused,” he said.
