The head of the United Nations called the Gaza struggle a “cascade of havoc”, before it urges action before “it’s too late”.

Web Desk, 29/07/2025

United Nations General Secretary Antonio Gutres has described the ongoing destruction in Gaza as a “waterfall of destruction” and said that according to the UN news report, the Israeli-Filistini conflict has reached “a braking point”.

He urged the world leaders to work before it was too late.
Speaking at a high-level United Nations Conference in New York, Guterres said the decades-old struggle is no longer a crisis, but the collapse of peace efforts.

The United Nations news report stated at the International Conference on the Israeli-Pilstinian conflict, “The peace process is characterized by the matter, but there is no concrete result for a very long time.”

He said, “Since decades, the Diplomacy of the Middle East has been a much more process than peace. Words, speeches and announcements may not have much meaning for those on the ground. They have seen it earlier. Meanwhile, in the meantime, destruction and annexation bulldoz further,” he said.

He called for occupation and fresh support for a two-state solution, which he said is the only way for permanent peace.

“What is the option? The reality of a state where Palestinians are denied equal rights and forced to live under permanent occupation and inequality? The reality of a state where Palestinians are expelled from their land? It is not peace. It is not justice. And it is not acceptable,” he said.

Furthermore, according to the United Nations News report, Guterres confirmed his support with Jerusalem as its shared capital with peace and security for two independent and democratic states -Israel and Palestine. But he warned that the target was slipping out of reach.

“The truth is that we are at a braking point,” he said. “The Israeli-Filistini conflict has terminated for generations, defying the ASHAs, defying diplomacy, defying countless proposals and defying international law.”

Condemning October 7, 2023, the attacks of Hamas attacks on Israel, Gutrees also criticized Israel’s military reaction.

He said, “Gaza has landed in a waterfall of devastation. Tens of thousands of dead. In fact the entire population has been displaced several times. All the shadows of starvation on all,” he said.

He called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of all the hostages and full human access to Gaza. “These are not prior conditions for peace. They are its foundations.”

Guterres urged the international community to act immediately and decisively.

“This struggle cannot be managed. It should be resolved. We cannot wait for the right circumstances. We have to make them,” he said, “We must work before it is too late.”

The three-day conference co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia was organized under the Mandate of the United Nations General Assembly. This brought global leaders, diplomats and peace advocates together how to resume peace talks, rebuild faith, and respond to the human crisis in Gaza.

Guterres ended his speech by calling the leaders to treat peace as a common responsibility.

“Not as a dream, but as a reality for Palestinians, for Israelis, for the people of the Middle East, and to the world,” he said. (AI)
