PM Modi meets Maldives VP Lathef; Infrastructure discusses climate change

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met Maldives Vice President Hussain Mohammad Lathef.

PM Modi said that during the meeting, he discussed the major pillars of India, such as technology, infrastructure, energy and climate change.

While reflecting the meeting, PM Modi was ready to deepen the relationship in the coming years.

He wrote on X, “A very good meeting with Vice President Ujin Mohammad Lathef. Our discussion touched the major pillars of India-Maladives friendship. Our nation continues to work closely in infrastructure, technology, climate change, energy and many areas. It is very beneficial for our people. We see this partnership.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Maldives on the invitation of President Mohammad Muizu. He is a guest of honor for the 60th Independence Day celebrations in the country.

Speaking at a banquet held in his honor on Friday, PM Modi emphasized the depth of bilateral relations.

He said, “India-garland relations are centuries old. We are neighbors, partners and true friends who are standing together at the time of need. Maldives holds a special place in India’s ‘Neberhood First’ policy … It is not just diplomacy, but a relationship with deep affinity.”

President Mohammad Muzu praised the leadership of PM Modi and confirmed a strong relationship between India and Maldives.

Muizu said, “India has long been standing as the closest and most trusted partner to the Maldives. Our cooperation is spread in many areas from security and business to healthcare, education and beyond, to touch the everyday lives of our citizens.”

On Friday, during a special press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri commented, “This very time and productive journey provided an opportunity to both countries and both leaders to review our very close cooperation and continue construction on it. New paths.
