How the rescue of three workers stuck underground in BC mine

In the Northern BC, three contractors were rescued late Thursday in Red Chris Gold and Copper Mine after more than 60 hours.

Here is a time -line of how the situation came to light (Pacific from all times):

July 22, 2025, 6 am Three contractors working for high-tech drilling start work for the day in the mine.

7:47 am The quarry experience is what the authorities are called “localized” ground collapse. The three workers go to a shelter station and Pneumont says that the labor radio that they were safe.

10:30 AM

A second, large, decline, cuts the communication.

July 23, 2025, 10 am

BC Premier David EB, while speaking at a news conference at Ontario to mark the end of a premiere meeting, announced to implicate three workers.

11 am

Pneument Corp, the operator and the majority owner of the mine say the contractors were working more than 500 meters from the first decline area. It states that workers have enough air, water and food for “extended migration”.

July 24, 2025, 6 am

Pneumont says it deployed drones to assess underground conditions, and is stopping access to workers 20 to 30 meters long and seven to eight meters high debris. It says that a remote-controlled scoop is removing the debris.

2:30 pm

Pneumont CEO Tom Palmer says that the company would “completely and free investigation” in what happened and share details with the rest of the industry.

4:40 pm

Pneumont has a news conference where global security chief Bernard Vessals say that there is a “natural flow of air” in the area where workers are trapped. He says that drones are swept away on debris and a stable route has been found behind it.

Hy-tech drilling releases workers’ names with permission from its families. They are Kevin Combes, Darren Maduke and Jessie Chubati.

10:50 pm

Pneumonts are safely brought to the surface after “carefully planned and carefully executed defense”.
