OTTAWA – Statistics Canada says retail sales declined by 1.1 percent to $ 69.2 billion in May, inspired by a decline in sales on motor vehicles and parts dealers.
However, the agency says its initial figures for June are inscribed for an increase of 1.6 percent for that month.
For May, three out of nine sub -sub -divisions as sales in the motor vehicle decreased and parts dealers decreased by 3.6 percent, causing 4.6 percent less sale in new car dealers.
Core retail cells, which exclude gasoline stations and fuel vendors and motor vehicle and parts dealers, were relatively unchanged in May.
The only sub -sector food and beverage within core retail sales to post a decline, with low sales in beer, wine and alcohol retailers, with supermarkets and other grocery retailers with low sales in retailers. Construction materials and garden tools and supply dealers increased by 1.9 percent.
In terms of volume, overall retail sales declined by 1.4 percent in May.
