Court custody parole to MP Engineer Rashid to participate in Parliament session

Special NIA judge detained in Patiala House Court on Tuesday Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid from 24 July to 4 August. This detention parole has been provided for that period whenever there is a Parliament session. Rashid has to bear the cost and follow other situations.

The court has rejected the interim bail plea. Rashid is in judicial custody in a terrorist funding case associated with Hafiz Saeed.

Special Judge (NIA) Chander Jit Singh gave detention to Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Engineer Rashid to participate in custody in the monsoon session of Parliament during the period from July 24 to August 4.

The court has allowed custody parole under certain conditions such as security costs, etc., and other ideas.

Rashid demanded interim bail or custody parole to participate in the monsoon session of the upcoming Parliament, which started from July 21.

Engineer Rashid was represented by Advocates Aditya Wadhwa, Vikt Oberoi and Nishita Gupta, who argued that they should be granted interim bail, and in option, permission to participate in Parliament in custody (without paying for travel costs).

It was also argued that the trial court granted interim bail on 10.09.2024 for the state election campaign, which was extended three times. Therefore, it cannot be considered a security threat.

In addition, the Delhi High Court allowed him to participate in Parliament twice on 10.02.2025 and 25.03.2025, during which he duly participated, presented by the lawyer.

Nia had opposed the petition and submitted that an interim order should not be given, and if she is allowed to participate in custody, she should pay the travel expenses.

The counsels for Rashid opposed paying the expenses of any journey, as they are trying to participate in Parliament as their public duty, not for their personal work.

On earlier occasions, Engineer Rashid was also allowed to participate in Parliament sessions and take oath. (AI)
