Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reviewed the ongoing restoration and development of the historic Mubarak Mandi campus in Jammu.
Along with advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Yudhivir Sethi, the Chief Minister visited the site and obtained a detailed briefing on the multi-phase project with the aim of reviving the architectural grandeur of former Dogra Royal Palace.
Principal Secretary Culture, Brij Mohan Sharma gave an observation for the implementation of the project, while Deepika Sharma, Executive Director of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, Deepika Sharma made a presentation underlining her various components.
Briefing described how each region reflects a separate cultural theme. Under the Jammu Smart City Mission, some innovative initiatives such as the library-cum-cafe in the complex will be available to the public within a historical setting.
It was reported that the master plan divides the complex into six areas, including public place, knowledge center, experienced field, and a craft market.
Major infrastructure proposals, including a span bridge and lift installation, were also discussed to improve access and increase the experience of visitors. Officials informed the Chief Minister that most of the structures are recovered and are being systematically restored for their original splendor.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized important priorities for the project vision. He said that the central courtyard sector should be developed as a priority for public attraction and highlight the need for an entry, reflecting its real heritage character, welcoming for visitors. He urged to be completed on time of ongoing works, saying that the pending projects should be fulfilled as soon as possible to give meaningful objectives to the project. In a call for cultural revival, he said that Dogra craft should be promoted through events and activities planned on the campus.
Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, while echoing the Chief Minister’s sentiments, said that it is important that Mubarak Mandi is attractive to visitors and becomes a lively heritage site that balances historical authenticity with modern expectations.
Mubarak Mandi Complex is one of the most important architectural heritage sites in Jammu and is considered as a comprehensive cultural center, housing museum, conference sites and heritage hospitality services.
During the conversation, the Chief Minister also reviewed the operational challenges and future requirements to address both the immediate restoration goals and long -term stability to the project.
Senior officials including Joint Commissioner JMC (Additional CEO Jammu Smart City), Subah Mehta, Superintending Engineer Public Works Department Ashwani Kangotra and others concerned were also present during the meeting.
