Earlier this week, a 91 -year -old man, who was homeless, found a temporary house to support his community, city councilors and strangers who were angry with the story.
Isidoro ventullo lives in a bedroom apartment on Clinton Street for 20 years, but was forced to leave on Monday.
Since last year, a eviction order was retained on the appeal in May so that the landlord could go to the unit.
City councilor Dianne Sachs helped him find a shelter that night and worked to find a solution. “He is now living with friends, and we have really worked hard to ensure that when he is ready to move forward, we have found a way for him,” Sachs said.
This eviction was legal, but Laura Tamblin Watts, president and CEO of AdvocC Group Cans, says that senior people are often paying the price and are leading to be homeless.
“It requires a wake-up call for communities and governments to make a plan to ensure that people can safely age and not only leave it in emergency rooms or in fact, visit the cemeteries of people we could help.”
Councilor Sachs echoes that feeling and says that she wants the city to be well informed before eviction for weak tenants.
“One of the things we need, and I am going to the landlord and tenant board, to say that you do not tell us when you are issuing a eviction order, so that if these people need support, we have got a chance to provide it, we should not find out when it is known at the door of Sheriff.”
Citynues audiences, as the Heather Campbell Pope, who does not know Ventulo, was also transferred from his plight, so he created a sovereign.
“The compassion of a gofundme community seemed like a way to channel in action. As a senior advocate, I also feel a personal feeling of failure that we let it fall through a crack. We need to change our laws, so we do not be outspoken to many elderly people to be homeless, but we are called in such cases.”
Gofundme has increased more than $ 5,000 to assist Ventulo during this infection and can occur with any other expense. Funderizer closes on Sunday.
