Amber Heat Health Alert is likely to 'increase death' amid warnings for parts of England

An amber heat health alert has been issued for large parts of England, in which authorities have warned to promote temperature over the weekend, which is likely to increase deaths.

The areas spread from Midlands regions to south are affected including London. Only the North East, North West and Yorkshire and Hamber have retained less severe yellow heat alerts.

These yellow alerts were across England until Monday, but were upgraded to East and West Midlands, East and Southeast and South West of England on Friday morning.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) states that the affected areas are “likely to have significant impacts”, including “increase in deaths”.

This adds that it is especially the most likely to be affected next, with younger groups, with those older and health conditions.

The agency also notes that health and social care services are likely to struggle with high demand due to heat. This involves difficulty for employees in distributing essential services, more than recommended levels in hospitals and more than recommended levels in hospitals.

Amber alert is scheduled to end at 9 am on Monday.
