Sarkar serves a show-causal notice to former SMC Mayor at Church Lane Bungalow

Srinagar, 09 July (KDC): The Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued a reason notice to the former Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azeem Mattoo to allegedly continue to occupy a government bungalow in Church-Len beyond its entitled period.

According to an official notice accessible by Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir.com, Deputy Director Estates Kashmir said that Mattoo was allotted the Government House number HOD-3 in Church Lane, Sonwar in November 2018, which was valid till April 2019 during his tenure as Mayor.

“From the official record, there has been no expansion by the government since April 2019,” the notice stated that the former mayor “illegally and without any formal allocation/extension order was maintained.”

The notice mentioned that despite “separate notices/communication/oral requests” to evacuate the property, Mattoo failed to comply with. This noted that his legal challenge against the eviction process before the J&K High Court (WP (c) No. 2114/2024) was settled on 9 May 2025.

“As a date, you are not entitled to maintain the scheduled campus in the absence of any statutory provision in this regard,” the notice said, the Mattoo was instructed to either vacate the bungalow or to produce documentary evidence to justify your possession by 15 July 2025.
