Not final, review can be reviewed: JK Education Minister on criticism of revised school timing

Srinagar, July 8: Between a backlash at the time of the revised school, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itu said on Tuesday that the decision is not final and it can be reviewed.

The Education Department on Monday changed the time of all schools in Kashmir and the winter field of Jammu Division. Schools closed for summer holidays due to prolonged heatwaves opened again on Tuesday.

According to the order of an education department, the time for schools falling within the municipal border of Srinagar will be from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm and the time for the people outside the Srinagar municipal border will be from 8 am to 12 noon.

Before the summer break, schools started around 9 am.

The revised time created a sharp reaction from several quarters including parents. Opposition leaders also questioned the practicality of the move.

Itu told reporters in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, “(I have received many calls more than change in school time).

If there is some problems over time, adjustments can be made. People and students do not need to worry, he said.

Itu said that the government wants children to study because examinations are coming.

“We have a November session and we want them to complete their studies. The attempt to reopen schools after holidays and change time is that students should complete their syllabus because … exams are in October,” she said.

“We want students of J&K to study and excel,” the minister said.

It is not clear that the revised school time – will be in place – for the purpose of combating heatweaves.
