Web Desk, 07/07/2025

The joint statement of the leaders released after the 17th BRICS Summit at Rio de Janeiro is very widely echoed with the views of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, MEA Secretary Dumu Ravi said.

Addressing a press conference here to Sunday (local time) MEA Secretary (Economic Relations), the BRICS Group of Country has raised its strong support for a comprehensive conference on International Terrorism (CCIT), which has been India’s initiative in the United Nations.

The purpose of the treaty proposed by India within the United Nations structure is to provide a comprehensive legal basis to combat terrorism. Its purpose is to define and criminalize various terrorist functions, ensuring that individuals performing these acts can be prosecuted or extradited.

The MEA Secretary said that the joint statement of the leaders released after the BRICS summit at Rio de Janeiro on Sunday condemns the expression of terrorism, including its financing.

“Para 34 (of the BRICS announcement) says all its manifestations include the condemnation of terrorism, including the abet, either secretly or overlapping. Terrorists also have a reference to the cross-border movement and list of terrorist groups. There is a very clear support against terrorism.

He expressed solidarity and strong condemnation that it was captured very well, ”he said.

He said, “We have other columns, but many ideas of India that we are interacting over the period of time, they have been brought out well, and in today’s discussion, all the ideas and ideas we have seen have been exchanged, which echo with the views of the honorable Prime Minister throughout the sessions.”

“Let me clarify some of the most important questions, which came in the context of Pahalgam. If you look at Para 34, it is very clear. One is the unanimous condemnation of all the leaders. I think you also know that you also know that all its terrorists cross the limit movement,” he said.

Ravi said that the announcement is a strong message for India’s “neighbors”.

“It is very clearly and a list of terrorist groups, and is also a strong support for a comprehensive conference against terrorism, which was India’s creation and prolonged initiative in the United Nations. So the message is very clear.

Whoever understands the dangers of terrorism and how it can be, how it needs to condemn, not just by us, it is a solidarity, a universal condemnation, which means that all countries are against it in any form. So this message is very clear for our neighbors, ”said the MEA Secretary.

The declaration statement of BRICS leaders condemned the Pahgam terror attack on 22 April in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April, killing 26 innocent people.

“We confirm our commitment to combat terrorism in all forms and expressions of terrorists, including the agitation of terrorists, terrorism financing and safe havens to combat terrorism in all forms and manifestations of terrorists.”

Speaking during a session at the BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Modi said that there should be a “principle” rather than the case of “convenience” to condemn terrorism, it has been described as the “most serious challenge” for humanity in the current global scenario.

Spotting the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, PM Modi reminded of the threat of terrorism for global peace and asked for unbreakable international solidarity.

He said that the attack was a shock to India’s “soul, identity and dignity”, in which the international support obtained by the nation in solidarity was accepted.

PM Modi called for decisive sanctions against such acts, stating that terrorism victims and supporters cannot be weighed on the same scale.

“For personal or political gains, it should not be acceptable under any circumstances to give silent consent for terrorism and support terrorists,” he said.
