Lion owners arrested after attack on woman and 2 children in Pakistan

Lahore (AP) – The owner of a pet lion who ran away from a farmhouse and injured a woman and her two children were arrested in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore, officials said on Sunday.

The arrest was made after the dramatic video footage came to light, showing a lion leaping on a wall before attacking the victims in a residential area.

Police officer Faisal Kamran said that the woman and her 5- and 7-year-old children faced injuries on their face and weapons on Wednesday night, when the lion ran away from his cage, police officer Faisal Kamran said.

According to a police report, the father of the children told the police that the lion owners were standing and looked at their family as an animal, which made no attempt to control him. The lion later returned to the owners’ farmhouse and was transferred to a wildlife park, police said.

Keeping foreign animals like Lions is considered a status symbol among some rich Pakistanis, despite the high fee associated with legal requirements and ownership.
