The National Council of Canadian Muslims say it is ‘disappointed and disgusting’ after a Muslim woman allegedly attacked in Oshwa on Wednesday morning.
According to a social media post, NCCM says that the woman, who owns a local restaurant, allegedly saw a group of individuals in an attempt to rob the restaurant and face them.
The organization said, “The attackers pulled the woman’s hijab and proceeded to attack her, including filling her stomach on her head.”
NCCM says that they would like to investigate the incident as hate-inspired offense.
Durham Regional Police told Citynues that they have not yet received a report about the alleged incident.
“The facts are clear: Islamophobic attacks have spread across the country over the last two years, including the recent wire of Islamophobic incidents in the Durham region,” NCCM said. “Our elected leaders should take action to address this wave of hate.”
NCCM has planned to speak more about the incident at a news conference to be held at 11 am on Thursday in Oshwa.
