The Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 200,000 vehicles as a software defect can thwart the rearview camera, leading to an increase in the risk of accident and injury.
Ford told us the highway safety regulators that the camera could either display an empty image or the driver may remain on the display after the backup is over, which can cause distraction.
The dealership will eventually update the camera software for free. The owner notification letter is expected to be mail by July 28.
For this recall, Ford’s number is 25S72 and owners can call Ford customer service on 1-866–436-7332. The owners can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Hotline on 1-888-327-4236 (Tty 1-888-275-9171), or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
