CNN had earlier stated that the officials of Katri on Tuesday made a new proposal to both Hamas and Israel for a 60-day ceasefire, supported by the Trump administration, according to a source familiar with the case.
The source said the proposal was finalized after the months of back-to-back efforts led by President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witchoff. It was presented on the same day when Israel’s strategic affairs minister Ron Dermer visited Washington for meetings with top officials of the Trump administration.
The new proposal came a few days later when Qatar helped the broker between Iran and Israel to the ceasefire between Iran and Israel after Iran’s attack on Iran’s nuclear program, and was rejected by Hamas months after Hamas, an early trump administration -backed ceasefire resolution for Gaza.
A source told CNN that the new version – on which Qatar also worked – tried to take into account Hamas’s concerns with the earlier proposal. During the war, the Israeli hostages will be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, the source said.
