Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah warned on Saturday that his party had no option, but if Jammu and Kashmir are delaying the restoration of the state to contact the Supreme Court.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said, “It has been eight months (since the Jammu -Kashmir government was formed). I hope that when the state is restored here, we will get (administrative) powers too … Our stand is that we are waiting (for the state of Jammu and Kashmir).
Their comment comes at a time when the specific status of the Nekan state and the particular status of Jammu and Kashmir moves forward to the restoration of Article 370 in August 2019 by the Center. The move also inspired the bilateral of the former state in two union territors -Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladak.
Neck’s new warning follows a meeting of its functioning committee held at the party headquarters in Srinagar under the chairmanship of Farooq Abdullah. The committee adopted the seven resolutions covering the issues of major political, security and civil rights, demanding the restoration of special status and restoration of the state.
“The Working Committee unanimously confirmed its unwavering commitment to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The committee reiterated that it is central for people’s aspirations and dignity and should be addressed without further delay. We will continue to fight for its restoration,” reads.
The party also reiterated its call for the restoration of the entire state, pointing to the commitments made in Parliament and by the Supreme Court. Nekan said, “The Working Committee urged the Government of India to immediately restore Jammu and Kashmir, as promised on the floor of Parliament, repeatedly resonated in public domains, and was also committed by the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court,” Nekan said.
Meanwhile, on a separate issue, Farooq Abdullah expressed concern over the growing tension in the Middle East, urging all sides to exercise restraint. “I pray that God gives knowledge to both Iran and Israel. Trump should talk about peace. This struggle can only be resolved peacefully,” he said, underlining the need for diplomatic solutions amid growing enmity. (AI)
