A UK Energy Firm After failing to pass on mandatory exemption, it will pay £ 150 to thousands of customers in compensation.
Utilita would have to pay a total of £ 277,000 to BillPier as it was not Hot house discount payment On time, the regulator’s regulator said.
Payment Between 2023 and 2024, it should have been built, however, 4,000 customers did not receive them due to “internal error in processing”.
Utilita first paid £ 30,000 in compensation to customers after first identification. However, it has agreed with OFGEM to pay £ 247,000 to affected customers.
Formed in 2003, Utilita has around 800,000 customers in the UK and specializes in paying you as (PAYG) smart energy meters. The firm started installing smart prepament meters in 2008, in which 90 percent of the customers are now using one.
Warm Home Discount Scheme The government is administered by OrameGem and gives people an automatic payment of £ 150 each year on low income, which is applied by their supplier.
There are two ways to qualify. The first bill is to be in the receipt of a guarantee element of pension credit for the payment. Otherwise, they have to receive a qualified advantage (including universal credit) with ‘high energy costs’, which is evaluated by the government.
Ofgem’s latest supplier display report highlights a light on a non-complex on a hot home discount, showing that seven other suppliers also failed to pass them in 2023 and 2024.

Ofgem has confirmed that these payments have already been made.
Catherine Scott, Regional Director of Market Oversite and Enforcement at OFGEM, said: “Weak energy on low income is a lifeline for consumers on low income. Even less delay in making these payments can cause damage to weaker customers, so it is important that suppliers make these payments on time and no problem.
“Unfortunately, on the occasion, Utilita failed to pay some of his customers on time to decrease from our standards. Youtilita made an audit of his hot home discount procedures to ensure that it does not happen again.
“This is our duty for the protection of consumers. And today’s results, as well as the conclusion prescribed in our supplier performance report, serve as a reminder to all suppliers who are unacceptable failures to pay timely, and we can take enforcement action to correct things for customers.”
