The 272-cilometer-Lumba Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which is to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is an electrified railway corridor that has 36 tunnels and 943 bridges.
A major highlight is the Katra-Banihal section, where a distance of 97.42 km of 111-km passes through tunnels or bridges.
The section also includes the T-50 tunnel, which is about 13 km, India’s longest railway tunnel.
Speaking to ANI, Executive Director of Information and Publicity, Dilip Kumar said that in the USBRL project, Katra-Banihal section, extending more than 111 km, alone include tunnels and bridges in the area of 97.42 km alone.
“Today, PM will dedicate the USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link) project to the nation. Explaining the engineering importance of both bridges, Kumar said he is specially designed to face earthquakes and strong winds.
He said, “The bridge across the Chenab River is a historical engineering miracle, we have crossed the Eiffel Tower (in height) and the bridge is 359 meters high … 35 meters longer than the Eiffel Tower and five times longer than the Qutub Minar. It is also used in Solds.
Speaking of the time and facilities of Vande Bharat vehicles, which will also be flagged off by the Prime Minister, Kumar said, “Railways have decided two trains on this section (Udampur-Srinagar-Bermulla Rail Link).
One train will leave at 8.10 am and the other at 1455 hours (2.55 pm). The train that leaves at 8.10 am passes through Banihal and reaches Srinagar at 11.10 am in about 3 hours. The train going on 1455 hours (2.55 pm) will reach Srinagar at 6 pm. Talking about the opposite direction, 26404 trains will leave Srinagar every day at 8 am and it will reach Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Katra station. The second train will leave Srinagar at 2 pm and will reach Shri Mata Vaishno Devi every day at 1705 hours (5:05 pm). The train will have eight coaches, including the executive class and a chair car … “
He praised the Modi government’s efforts to improve railway connectivity in remote areas like Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast.
