Next to Eid, the Food Security Team conducts special market inspection

Web Desk, 05/06/2025

Srinagar, June 05: To ensure availability of standard quality food products in the market on the eve of Eid ul Adha, as part of the special market check drive, the Food Security Team on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-day Bhat inspected intensive markets across the city.

The checking team led by Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety inspected various areas of the city, including Zainkote Industrial Area, Shilteng, Lalbazar, Hazratbal, Sadarbal, Noval and other surrounding areas, ensuring compliance of food safety norms by all food business operators.

During inspections, a significant amount of ghee finished from a manufacturing unit in the Zainkote industrial area was seized. About 110 kg expired ghee was confiscated, and a case has been registered against the Food Business Operator (FBO) under the relevant rules and regulations of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Meanwhile, DC has asked the Food Safety Department Srinagar to continue regular market inspection in Srinagar city to ensure compliance with food security criteria. He emphasized the safety of public health by ensuring that all food products meet the highest safety standards in all areas.

The Food Safety Department has urged consumers to be vigilant while purchasing food products and reports any suspected products to the Food Safety Department to take action against FBOs which are found to be violating food safety norms.

Meanwhile, the food business operators, in which any provision of the Food Safety and Standards Act, including manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers, has been avoided. Failure to follow the rules resulted in strict action against defaulters, allowing their facilities to be discontinued. No compromise will be made with the quality of food items.
