Baramulla Police secures success in PocSo case

The Baramulla police have achieved a significant success in investigating the case of sexual harassment associated with a mentally challenged minor girl, resulting in an identity and arrest of three accused persons through constant forensic and investigative efforts.

On receiving information in January 2025, Kunzer Police Station registered FIR number 04/2025 under the relevant sections of POCSO Act and BNS after 25 weeks pregnant during a medical examination at SDH Magam.

The investigation led by the then show Kunjar Inspector Sheikh Adil revealed that the minor was repeatedly attacked by several criminals. Initial interrogation led to the arrest of Mohammad Rafiq Bhat (resident of Dhobiwan), Mohammad Nasrullah Khan (resident of Hehma Lolb, Kupwara), who was arrested for rape, sexually assaulted, and kidnapped under Pocoso provisions, although DNA analysis saw both of them as father.

Through continuous efforts, investigators focused on Javad Alam (resident of Champaran) as a major suspect. Forensic matching confirmed that his DNA matched the fetus, established him as a biological father and confirmed his role in sexual harassment for pregnancy.

The investigation confirmed that all the three accused attacked the victim independently on several occasions, with Alam responsible for conception.

The case reflects tireless commitment to acquire justice for the weakest people of Baramulla police.

Despite the early forensic complications, our team employed a methodical investigation and advanced technology to identify all criminals. We confirm our zero-tolerance trend against crimes against children and will ensure strict prosecution.

The Baramulla police urged anyone to come forward with additional information about the case or related incidents.
