“Policy has been different”: Mehboba Mufti Question Pakistan’s inconsistent policy on Pakistan

Web Desk, 29/04/2025

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti responded to Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief Farooq Abdullah to strict action compared to the Balakot strike for strict action against Pakistan.

Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, he highlighted Abdullah’s previous contradictory statements about Pakistan, questioning the continuity of JKNC’s policy.

“I have heard that JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah said that hard action should be taken (against Pakistan) compared to Balkot. The policy of JKNC has been different. Farooq Abdullah used to say that we should drop a bomb on another Kashmir and sometimes he says that we should talk. So, I don’t want to go into it.”

Farooq Abdullah on Monday strongly condemned Pakistan, emphasizing the need for action, which prevents such attacks in the future, questioning the effectiveness of previous measures.

Talking to the media, Farooq mentioned his previous advocacy to negotiate with Pakistan, highlighting the importance of understanding the value of humanity.

He criticized Pakistan’s actions, saying that he has “killed humanity” and India should not expect to compromise on its principles.

Abdullah said, “I used to favor a conversation with Pakistan every time. How will we respond to those who lost our loved ones? Will we be doing justice? No, Balkot, the nation should be taken such action today so that such attacks are never there,” Abdullah said.

Targeting Pakistan further, the JKNC chief emphasized the unity of India, rejected two-nation theory and saying that Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians are all one. He assured that India would give an answer to those responsible for the attack.

“We regret that today our neighbor does not even understand that it has killed humanity. If we feel that we will go with Pakistan by doing so, we should clean their misconceptions. We should not accompany them in 1947, so why will we go today? We will leave two-nation theory at that time.” Farooq Abdullah said for them.

Mufti emphasized the need to heal wounds of people affected by the initiative terror attack. “It is important to heal the fresh wounds of people.”

The attack in Pahgam is one of the most deadly attacks in the valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike, killing 40 CRPF personnel.

After the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April, in which 26 people lost their lives, India has taken strong measures against Pakistan to support cross -border terrorism.

India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, which allocates western rivers (Indus, Jhelum, Chenab) to Pakistan and Eastern Rivers (Ravi, Beas, Sutlej) in India.

The Indus Water Treaty was signed in 1960 after a nine -year conversation between India and Pakistan with the help of the World Bank. It is recognized as one of the most successful international treaties, as it has placed the Kargil wars of 1965, 1971 and 1999 between the two nations.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the Pahgam terror attack, there is an anti-terrorism operations at several places in Jammu and Kashmir, sources familiar with the case told ANI.

According to sources, no specific updates are being shared at this level due to the sensitive nature of ongoing operations. (AI)
