Awareness Session, Cultural Program on Shopian under IEC campaign on drug abuse

Shopian, April 28, KDC: UT-Wide Flagship Initiative Nasha Mutt, Jammu and Kashmir Campaign, Information and Public Relations Department (DIPR), Shopian, Cultural Unit and Education Department, as well as UT-Vied flagship innovative drugs as part of the ongoing information, education and communication campaign.

The program organized at the Rangur Memorial GHSS School, Kigam witnessed enthusiastic participation from the department officials of Health, DLSA, Education, Social Welfare, Ayush and school children.

During the incident, a panel of experts and resource individuals from several departments conducted interactive sessions, which made the attendees sensitive to the dangerous consequences of drug abuse.

Medical professionals of the Health Department highlighted the root causes of drug addiction, including depression, curiosity, family trauma and inferiority. He emphasized the importance of timely intervention, emotional support and rehabilitation in dealing with the crisis.

The resource individuals of DLSA provided a detailed insight into the strategic action plan of the district to curb the addiction of drugs.

One of the main attractions of the event was the dramatic and artistic performance, which was sponsored by DIPR, J&K and DIPR Shopian’s cultural unit. Creative skits were on the prevention of misuse of drugs, powerfully depicted the devastating effects of drug addiction on families and communities. The protest asked the society to unite and take collective responsibility to eliminate the danger from its roots.

It was informed that 98 awareness programs are being set at the panchayat level under the IEC campaign, out of which 61 have already been organized. Additionally, 17 programs employed for municipal areas have been organized. To expand this initiative to students, 26 programs have been set in educational institutions.

During the program, the speakers insisted on using the services available in the addiction treatment facility operated in the district and encouraged the affected persons to seek professional help without stigma.

The speakers of the events repeated the need for a community-driven approach to effectively deal with the increasing challenge of drug abuse. Through discussions, interactive sessions and expert talks, participants were encouraged to act as agents of changes within their areas.

The program was attended by DDC member Raja Wahid, District Nodal Officer (AYUSH), Deputy LADC, DLSA representative, lecturer and Teenage Memorial Government Higher Secondary Schools, Kigam and Narpora teachers. (KDC)
