Hindu community leader kidnapped, killed in Bangladesh

Arun Jain, 18/04/2025

Dhaka:

Till now in another incident of violence against minorities in Bangladesh, a Hindu leader was abducted in Biral Apazila in Dinajpur and confirmed by local police and family members.

Local media reported that the person, Bhabesh Chandra, was a prominent leader of the Hindu community in the region, who also worked as the vice -president of the Bangladesh Pooja Udjapan Parishad.

Talking to Bangladesh’s major newspaper, Daily Star, Chandra’s wife Shantana Roy, he said that four people reached two motorcycles and kidnapped Bhabesh from their residence on Thursday. Many witnesses also told the attackers to take the attackers to Narbari village, where they were brutally beaten.

Later that day, the attackers dropped Bhabesh’s unconscious body back to their home in a van. He was immediately taken to the Biral Apazila Health Complex. Subsequently, he was transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The in -charge of the Biral police station said that the police is working to identify and arrest the suspects involved, and preparations are underway to register a case.

Last month, a report by the Dhaka-based Human Rights Organization, Ain O Salish Center (ASK) stated that there are reports of a total of 147 incidents of houses, temples and business establishments of the Hindu community across Bangladesh.

Some 408 houses were brutally vandalized in these incidents, including 36 arson cases. In addition, there are reports of 113 incidents of 113 incidents of business establishments owned by minority community, 32 incidents of attacks on temples and mosques of Ahmadiyya sect, and 92 incidents of brutal idols in 92 temples.

In September 2024, the country’s leading Bengali Daily Prothom Aloo reported that after the fall of the Awami League government, there have been several incidents of attacks on minority communities across the country, especially on the Hindu community. In many areas, homes, commercial establishments and places of worship of Hindus still come under the purview of the attack.

In August last year, Bangladesh is struggling with violence and protests after the interim government led by the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. The situation of Hindus has deteriorated greatly under the Yunus -led interim government. There are several reports on Hungai’s rapes, murders and a dangerous increase in the impurity of temples of Hindu minorities.

India has expressed time and again concern against the atrocities of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of safety and safety of minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, during his meeting with Younus held on the occasion of the Bimstake Summit in Bangkok.

“On the question of minorities, this special issue came to discuss. We have expressed our concerns about the treatment of minorities and the kind of violence against them. We are increasing it in many of our conversations, including our meeting in Bangkok, that this violence and depression against minorities cannot be given this violence and depression. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jiswal said in a recent media.
