Arun Jain, 18/04/2025

Karachi:

Police said a mob on Friday killed a member of the creator Ahmedia minority when hundreds of radical Islamists surrounded their place of worship in the port city of Karachi, police said.

A senior police officer Muhammad Safdar told AFP, “A member of the community was killed after being identified as Ahmadi. He attacked him with sticks and bricks.”

“The crowd consisted of members of several religious parties,” he said.

Safdar said that the police took around 25 Ahmadis into custody for their safety.

An AFP journalist at the scene noticed that a prison van was escorted by police vehicles, which, after interacting with the 600-fierce crowd, takes Ahmadi people away.

Among the crowd, a local resident told the AFP that he joined the group to pressurize the police to arrest Ahmadis.

“We requested to seal the place and arrest those who operate Friday’s prayers, criminal proceedings were initiated against them,” said Abdul Qadir Ashrafi.

The Ahmadiyya community has been considered a heretics by the Pakistani government and has been persecuted for decades, but in recent years the threats and threats have intensified.
