Ghislane Maxwell appealed for a sex-trafficking case in Supreme Court

Arun Jain, 12/04/2025

(Bloomberg)-Lawyers of British Socialte Ghislene Maxwell said that they asked the US Supreme Court to reverse his 2021 sex-trafficking sentence, arguing that she was preserved from the prosecution under a deal, her ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein arrived with the government in a separate case.

In his petition, which was provided by his lawyer, Maxwell argued that he was covered by the terms of the 2007 non-princely agreement, Epstein arrived in Florida with an American Attorney. The prosecutors agreed not to further criminal allegations against Epstein or “any possible co-speculators” in exchange for their guilty petition in the state allegations, resolving minors to engage minors into prostitution.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence in a low-protection jail in Talhasi, Florida. During his jury trial in New York, the witnesses testified by Maxwell and prepared young girls for abuse by Epstein-the implemented financer who was waiting to prosecute allegations of sex-trafficking in prison-and sometimes participated in the attacks themselves.

A copy of Maxwell’s petition was provided by his lawyer David Marcus, who said it was presented on Thursday. The document was not immediately visible on the Supreme Court website. It takes a few days to formally do a new appeal in the Supreme Court clerk’s office.

Last year, a federal appeal in Manhattan rejected Maxwell’s argument that she was covered with Epstein’s Florida deal. Marcus said that the High Court should review the case as the federal appeal courts have been divided on how non-relevant agreements should be implemented to co-speculators. At the time of Epstein’s case in Florida, Maxwell was not charged, but he was considered a possible co-scientist in a criminal investigation.

Marcus wrote in the petition, “How the Circuit Courts explained the enforcement of non-initiative agreements,” was given to dismiss the speed of Maxwell, if he was accused in at least four other circuits, “Marcus wrote in the petition.”

Nick Bias, a spokesman at the Manhattan American Attorney Office, refused to comment on the case.

An investigation by a 2020 justice department concluded that the then American Attorney Alexander Acosta used a “poor decision” in approving a liberal petition with Epstein, but did not “professional misconduct”.

In the Florida case, Epstein was accused of sexually abusing dozens of girls. He signed a non-existence agreement with ACosta’s office, avoiding federal allegations, while he convicted the state allegations. He served 13 months in a working program.

Maxwell was arrested in 2020, a year later Epstein committed suicide by federal prosecutors in New York, facing a separate sex-trafficking case. He was convicted in 2021 on five allegations for recruiting and recruiting young girls for Epstein for misbehaving between 1994 and 2004.

The appeal was earlier reported by ABC News.
