Stock market, tariff war with China: Trump dominates this week’s headlines

Arun Jain, 11/04/2025

Washington:

High drama on stock markets and tension with China were mixed with light fare for Donald Trump this week as he dominated the news agenda again for seven days.

– Real Pressure –

Trump signed an executive order to lift water pressure restrictions on showerheads, a step White House said “would make America’s shower again great.”

Trump has long complained about insufficient water pressure in American bathrooms that he has blamed on environmental rules.

“I like to take a good shower, to take care of my beautiful hair,” he said. “I have to stand under the shower for 15 minutes until it gets wet. It comes out drip, drip, drip. It’s ridiculous.”

– ‘Yippy’ market –

Trump called everyone to “calm down” and added “it is a great time to buy”. Shortly before he reversed his tariff trade policy.

He later admitted that people were “being yippy” – a golf word was used to describe the loss of the nerve.

In a separate speech, Trump claimed that countries collided with tariffs were calling him and “kissing my ass” because they seek better deals with the United States.

– military parade? No –

The White House pushed back against the reports that are planning a military parade in Washington on 14 June, the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the US Army – and the 79th birthday of Trump.

Trump, after attending the Bustil Day Parade in France, thought of organizing a grand military parade in Washington during his first term.

It never became physical, however, the Pentagon stated that its cost could be $ 92 million and concerns increased that tanks and other heavy military vehicles would damage the city roads.

– Gulf of Press Access –

A judge ordered the White House to restore the reach of Associated Press in Trump’s official programs.

AP journalists and photographers have been stopped from the Oval Office and Air Force One as the news agency refers to the “Gulf of Mexico” – not as a decision by Trump, the “Gulf of America”.

The judge said the ban violates the first amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees freedom and press to speak. The White House has appealed.

– Vance and Farmers –

China condemned the comment by Vice President JD Vance, stating that the United States had a very long borrowed money from “Chinese farmers”.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lynn Gian said, “China’s situation on China-American economic and trade relations has become very clear.”

“It is amazing and sad to hear such ignorant and impervious words from this Vice President.”
