India is preparing to bring accused of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack Tavur Hussain Sana Back from the United States. And it has also attracted attention to its close aide, David Coleman Headley, one of the 2008 bombing conspirators, killing 166 people, including 20 security forces personnel and 26 foreigners in many parts of the financial capital of India.

A joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) is allegedly ready to extradite Rana, as it failed after its legal efforts to block the move – about 16 years after being arrested by the FBI.

Headley, an American citizen of Pakistani -origin, had already convicted Mumbai for his role in the attacks that had immersed in chaos for about three days. He is currently serving a 35 -year sentence in an American jail for allegations related to terrorism related to Mumbai attacks and is a planned attack on a Danish newspaper.

Who is David Coleman Headley?

  • David Coleman Headley Washington DC was born as Dawood Saeed Gilani, for Salim Gilani, a leading Pakistani diplomat and broadcaster and his American wife Alice Serill Headley.
  • Headley spent his early years at a boarding school in Pakistan before going to America, where he worked as a burn in his family’s pub in Philadelphia. He installed links with Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Tabi (Let).
  • In 1998, he was sentenced to two years in jail for smuggling heroin from Pakistan to America. After his release, Headley began working with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), carrying out undercover monitoring operations in Pakistan.
  • After attending at least five training camps in Pakistan between 2002 and 2005, according to the US Justice Department, five times for Mumbai attacks in 2008, traveled to India on the instructions of Lashkar Commanders.
  • He was arrested by US authorities in 2009 before he could attack further in Denmark. He later convicted the allegations of terrorism and collaborated with investigators, provided detailed insight into the role of late operations and Pakistan.
  • He is serving a 35 -year prison sentence in the United States. India has repeatedly sought its extradition, but the US authorities have refused, citing their cooperation deal.
