Will Indonesia’s iPhone 16 ban also affect India? Both companies benefit from

Web Desk, 30/10/202430/10/2024

iPhone 16 sales have been banned in Indonesia. The ban on Apple’s latest iPhone will also have a major impact on Indian users. The Indonesian government imposed this ban on the new iPhone 16 series due to non-compliance with local investment requirements. According to reports, the Indonesian government has set a condition for Apple, requiring its shipments of smartphones and tablets to meet 40% domestic content requirements. If this is not done, Apple products will not be marketed or sold in Indonesia.

Apple invested 1.48 trillion rupiah in Indonesia, which was 14.75 million rupiah less than the government’s target of 1.71 trillion rupiah. According to Indonesian regulations, any product sold in the country requires 40% local content, which includes parts, labor and facilities. Apple has missed its iPhone 16 investment target. Its sale without the necessary IMEI certification will be considered illegal in the country.

What impact will this have on Indian users?

The Indonesian government has banned the sale and entry of iPhone 16 into the country. There are thousands of tourists traveling to Indonesia from India, so they will also be affected by this ban. If you’re traveling to Indonesia with your iPhone 16, your phone won’t work there. In this case, you will need to carry a secondary smartphone.

The advantages of these two companies

Apple is not the number one player in Indonesia’s smartphone market, but other brands will benefit from the ban on the company’s latest iPhone. Apple is the seventh largest manufacturer in the Indonesian smartphone market. Currently, there are 350 million active smartphone users in Indonesia, 100 million of whom are under the age of 30. IDC reports show that OPPO and Samsung are both Indonesian smartphone giants. In this case, these two companies will benefit the most from this ban. Both companies make quality smartphones.
