Re-poll will be held on April 22 at 11 polling stations in Manipur Lok Sabha constituencies

Imphal:

The Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur on Saturday announced that re-polling will be held on April 22 at 11 polling stations in Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituencies.

The decision was taken after the Election Commission issued a directive declaring the April 19 polls held at these sites invalid and arranging new polls.

The official said the affected polling stations include Moirangkampu Sajeb and Thongam Leikai in Khurai constituency, four polling stations in Kshetrigao in Imphal East district, one in Thongju, three in Uripok in Imphal West district and one in Konthoujam.

Incidents of shooting at polling stations, intimidation, vandalism of EVMs, and allegations of occupation of polling stations have been reported in the conflict-affected state of Manipur. On Friday, the voting rate in the two Lok Sabha constituencies of Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur was 72%.

Earlier in the day, Congress asked 47 polling stations to re-vote, alleging polling stations were occupied and the election was rigged.

Manipur Congress president Megha Chandra said the party has lodged a complaint with the chief electoral officer seeking re-polling at 36 polling stations in Inner Manipur constituency and 11 polling stations in Outer Manipur constituency.
