Voters’ faith in democracy and willingness to exercise their franchise was on display during polling in Kathua on Friday when a couple cast their ballots on their wedding day.

Voters lining up at the polling station in Ward 9 of Kathua town were surprised to see Aseem Mangotra and his wife Vaishali in wedding dresses at the polling station.

Voters who lined up to make way for the couple to enter the polling station were the first to realize the trust and faith the couple had shown in the country’s democracy.

After voting, Asim and Vasyaly proudly showed off their fingers with indelible ink.

The couple said they rushed to exercise their franchise right after all the necessary rituals were completed.

Asim Mangotra said: “This day is an auspicious day for us. We join hands and express our faith in democracy.”

As of 12 noon, the turnout in Kathua-Udhampur constituency was 22.60 per cent in the first four hours after polling began at 7 am.
