Report says U.S. had advance knowledge of Israeli attack on Iran

The White House had no immediate comment on the Israeli attack.

Washington:

U.S. media quoted officials as saying that the United States received advance notice of Israel’s attack on Iran, but did not support the action or participate in its execution. NBC and CNN respectively cited people familiar with the matter and a U.S. official as saying that Israel had given Washington advance notice of the attack.

Multiple networks quoted officials as confirming an attack in Iran, with CNN citing an official saying the target was not a nuclear facility.

Israel told the United States on Thursday it would retaliate against Iran in the coming days, a senior U.S. official told CNN.

“We do not recognize that response,” the official said, according to CNN.

The White House had no immediate comment on the Israeli attack.

“We have nothing to offer at this time,” Pentagon Desk said in response to an AFP inquiry.

Iran activated its air defense systems in several cities after its state broadcaster said explosions were heard near the central city of Isfahan, state media reported.

Israel has warned it will retaliate after Iran fired hundreds of missiles and drones at its old enemy over the weekend. Most of them were intercepted.

The weekend onslaught followed an attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, which was widely blamed on Israel.
