Rohit Sharma creates history as first Indian to reach huge T20 record Cricket News

Team India and Mumbai Indians (MI) star batsman Rohit Sharma has become the first Indian to hit 500 sixes in T20 cricket. The ‘Hitman’ achieved the milestone during his team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit had his best score in this match, scoring 105* off 63 balls. His knock was studded with 11 boundaries and 5 sixes. With wickets collapsing around him, the former Mumbai Indians skipper held down the fort at one end, hammering away at a strike rate of 166.67. (IPL 2024 Points Table)

With these sixes, Rohit’s tally of sixes reached 502 sixes.

The highest number of sixes in T20 cricket is West Indies legend Chris Gayle (1,056 sixes), followed by Wisconsin all-rounder Kieron Pollard ) (860 sixes), Andre Russell (678 sixes) and Colin Munro (548 sixes).

In six games in this IPL this season, Rohit has scored 261 runs at an average of 52.20 with a strike rate of 167 and a century.

Once the game started, MI won the toss, allowing CSK to bat first.

After Ajinkya Rahane (5 balls) and Rachin Ravindra (21 off 16 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six) failed to make much of an impact, Gaikwad (69 off 40 balls, 5 fours and 5 sixes) ) and Shivam Dube (66* off 38 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes) stitched a 90-run partnership. In the run-chase, MI got off to a good start with Ishan Kishan (23 off 15 balls, including three fours and a six) and Rohit combining for 70 runs. Rohit managed to score his second IPL score but didn’t get much support from the other end, apart from another fifty with Tilak Varma (20 off 20 balls) 31 runs, including 5 fours). The Blue and Gold finished with a score of 186/6, losing by 20 runs.

Matheesha Pathirana (4/28) is the bowler for CSK. Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande also took wickets.
