The Chhattisgarh Anti-Corruption Bureau/Economic Offenses Wing (ACB/EOW) has arrested the former special secretary of the state’s excise department for alleged liquor fraud.
Special Public Prosecutor (ACB/EOW) Saurabh Pandey on Friday said Arun Pati Tripathi, former special secretary in the tax department and former managing director of Chhattisgarh State Marketing Corporation Limited (CSMCL) He was arrested from Bihar on Thursday and brought here.
Pandey informed: “ACB/EOW special judge Nidhi Sharma Tiwari granted Tripathi’s remand till April 18. The special court also granted the remand to Raipur Congress The custody of Mayor Aijaz Dhebar’s brother Anwar Dhebar and another accused Arvind Singh have been remanded till April 18.”
He said the ACB/EOW sought extension in the custody of Dhebar and Arvind Singh as the two were non-cooperative during interrogation.
In the FIR registered by the ACB/EOW in January 2024, as many as 70 people, including several Congress leaders, and companies were named in the alleged liquor scam. The FIR was lodged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.
According to the Enforcement Directorate, which is also investigating the case, a criminal gang earned Rs 2,161 crore through liquor fraud.
