In the 2022 testing data report released by the World Anti-Doping Agency, India had the highest doping test failure rate among countries that tested more than 2,000 samples, and South Africa ranked second. India tested 3865 samples (urine and blood samples) during the recording period, of which 125 samples returned adverse analytical results. That represented 3.2% of the sample, WADA said in a report released late Wednesday.

In terms of the number of tested samples, India ranks 11th, but the number of doping violations is higher than major sports countries such as Russia (85 cases), the United States (84 cases), Italy (73 cases) and France (72 cases).

South Africa had the second highest proportion of adverse results, with 2.9% of 2,033 test samples.

The third place is Kazakhstan, where 1.9% of 2,174 sample tests returned adverse results.

The fourth highest proportion comes from Norway and the United States. The United States has tested 6,782 samples, while Norway has tested 2,075 samples.

During this period, China tested the highest number of samples at 19,228, with a percentage of adverse results of 0.2%.

Germany tested 13,653 samples, of which 0.3% tested positive for banned substances.

Russia, which has been suspended by the International Olympic Committee for repeated doping violations, tested 10,186 samples with a percentage of negative analytical results of 0.8%.

“WADA’s annual testing data report is the most comprehensive overview of all doping control samples…” WADA Director General Olivier Niggly said in a statement.

“WADA is pleased to note that the number of anti-doping tests in the testing data continues to increase across the board and is closest to pre-pandemic levels (2019).

“Test data reporting is an important tool for cooperation between anti-doping organizations,” he added.
