King Charles III has approved the appointment of Samantha Mostyn as Australia’s next Governor-General, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The palace shared a photo of Samantha on its Instagram Story with the caption: “The Governor-General is the King’s representative in Australia.”

“On the recommendation of the Australian Prime Minister, the King has approved the appointment of Ms Samantha Mostyn AO as Australia’s next Governor-General.”

The 75-year-old monarch has accepted the Prime Minister’s advice to appoint business and community leaders to the role. She will become Australia’s 28th Governor-General and the second woman to hold the position.

“I am deeply honored by this great privilege and look forward to representing the values, hopes and aspirations of all Australians,” Mostyn said.

“I will never underestimate or take for granted the expectations that come with holding senior positions, and I am prepared to serve with integrity, compassion and respect.”
