A 19-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man on a train in south London.

Rakim Thomas was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

British Transport Police were called to reports of a fight between two men between Shortlands and Beckenham stations at around 4pm on Wednesday.

Thomas, from Beckenham, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday wearing a gray jumper.

He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. The case has been sent to the Old Bailey, where he will appear in court on April 26.

Thomas was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital, where police said Thursday he was in “critical but stable condition.”
