Chandigarh:
Days after the BJP-BJP alliance collapsed, the Ajay Chautala-led party on Tuesday announced that it will contest separately in all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. The decision was taken at a meeting of the BJP’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) in Delhi, the party said in a statement.
Various issues related to the Lok Sabha elections were discussed at a political action committee meeting in Delhi.
A number of candidates from various Lok Sabha constituencies in Haryana were shortlisted at a meeting chaired by JJP national president Ajay Singh Chautala.
Some members of the meeting suggested that the party should explore the possibility of contesting the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat elections in addition to Haryana, the statement said.
The PAC discussed the list of possible candidates for all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana and evaluated them on various parameters.
Lok Sabha polls for all 10 seats in Haryana will be held on May 25, the sixth phase of the seven-phase general election. The BJP has announced candidates for all 10 seats.
The statement said that during the PAC meeting, it was suggested that the JJP should also contest from the Chandigarh assembly seat and the party leadership directed to explore this possibility.
Former Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala and JJP state president Nishan Singh were present at the meeting.
Ajay Chautala recently said his party’s demand for two Lok Sabha seats in the Haryana elections was rejected by the BJP.
His statement comes after the BJP-BJP alliance ended in Haryana, with the National Party replacing Manohar Lal Harbin with Nayab Singh Saini Manohar Lal Khattar as chief minister.
