A woman is asking for help with her three-year-old daughter’s rare condition that ‘eats the house’. Stacey A’Hearne, from Blackwood, Wales, said she had to stop her daughter Wynter from chewing on potentially dangerous items such as plaster on walls, sofa foam and the sides of a high chair . The 25-year-old said Winter was diagnosed with autism and suffered from an unusual eating disorder called pica, which creates cravings for unsafe foods.
Ms Ahearn said: “She literally ate up the whole house. I bought a brand new sofa and she took chunks out of it.” go through subway.
“She was very picky about normal food but she would sit down and eat a sponge. She broke about eight picture frames and tried to eat glass,” the women said.
“No matter what, she’ll find a way to eat something she shouldn’t. Luckily she’s never really hurt herself because I monitor her very closely. But monitoring her is a full-time job,” she added road.
Ms Ahearn had seen Winter waking up in the middle of the night and chewing on the cot and blanket she slept on.
according to new york post, she saw Winter putting things in her mouth as a child but didn’t think it was anything serious. When she turned 13 months old, things suddenly changed.
Winter became nonverbal and her unusual eating habits began to escalate, prompting Stacey to contact her healthcare visitor, who referred her to other doctors.
After examination, the girl was finally diagnosed with pica and autism in January 2024.
“Pica is more common in children with autism, which Winter also has. I think it’s a sensory issue and she craves different textures. She has very severe autism, which Meaning she didn’t talk much and had some behavioral issues,” Ms Ahearn said.
She said she had to keep an eye on Winter and hoped the girl would eventually break free.
