Tensions have been rising between Taipei and Beijing in the Taiwan-controlled Kinmen Islands, located a few kilometers from mainland China. Residents have faced artillery attacks and ongoing military threats in the past. Even so, many said they doubted the conflict would reach their shores. VOA’s Elizabeth Lee explains.
