Decaying body of missing youth found in chandelier in Manipur

Police said the decomposed remains found in Sokom village in Manipur’s Chandel district were suspected to be those of a 19-year-old youth who had been missing since May last year. Ngangom Navy of Sugnu in Kakching district has been missing since May 28 last year and is presumed dead.

The search for Ngangom resumed on Wednesday after a video went viral on social media on Tuesday showing suspected militants beheading him. Manipur police identified the location where the video was shot and conducted fresh searches, where the decomposing remains were discovered on Wednesday. Police said the clothing seen in the video appeared to match the clothing found, adding that “forensic experts are examining the remains to confirm identification”.

The body has been deposited at JNIMS mortuary.
