A man committed suicide after allegedly killing his wife near Nehru Nagar Colony in Kamla, police said on Tuesday. Family members said the man had been depressed for some time and often said that if he died, he would kill his wife.

According to police, they received information about the body at around 7.30am. They were identified as Vinod Chowdhary and his wife Deepika, residents of Mahendra enclave. DCP city Gyananjay Singh said that the police have recovered one country-made pistol and two mobile phones.

Singh said Chaudhry’s family revealed during interrogation that Chaudhry had been depressed for some time. They also told police that Chaudhry often said that if he died, he would kill his wife too. Chaudhry’s family told police that Chaudhry was very affectionate for her. The DCP said Chaudhry had purchased a country-made pistol a few months ago and kept it in his car, though he had no enmity with anyone. Forensic experts said the bullet was fired from close range, Singh said, adding that police were awaiting the autopsy report.
