76ers’ Embiid (knee) to miss second straight game

By | Published | No Comments

The Philadelphia 76ers announced that center Joel Embiid will miss Monday night’s game in Portland with a knee injury.

This is the second consecutive game Embiid has missed. He showed up late to a matchup with two-time MVP Nikola Jokic in Denver on Saturday, prompting the league to investigate the status of team injury reports, according to multiple sources.

Embiid did not appear on any pregame injury report before Saturday’s game. According to people familiar with the matter, Embiid was confirmed to participate in the Denver game for the first time since 2019, but was stopped from the game by the team’s medical staff after the pregame staff watched him warm up. As one source put it, he “barely could jump” during warm-ups.

Embiid has missed 12 games this season. If he misses five more, he’ll be ineligible for any NBA postseason awards.

The 76ers play at the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.
