Apple’s launch of the Vision Pro headphones received an unexpectedly positive response from competitors. Meta has a strong position in this market with the Quest series, and Mark Zuckerberg is excited about Apple’s entry as it could reinvigorate the segment and get more people to show interest in these devices.

What’s more, Zuckerberg realized that Apple’s earphones were priced at $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2.90 lakh), which was far from the affordable price range of the Quest earphones.

The Meta head hopes that Apple’s launch in this area will attract more attention and bring new life to this stagnant category. In fact, Zuckerberg reportedly wants Quest to be the “Android of the AR and VR market,” which is an interesting way to look at Apple’s push into mixed reality.

Meta’s Quest series and its software layer is probably the most refined version of what the company hopes will be the next best thing to the Vision Pro, which is quite possible thanks to its $400 (roughly Rs. 32,000) price tag.

Another big change Meta could make by focusing on this area is to break away from the Metaverse and focus more on mixed reality development, and this is where having a brand like Apple helps its own business prospects.

It makes sense that Meta would take the Android route in this area and hope to establish itself as a reliable second choice for millions of people, especially those who don’t or can’t spend more than $250,000 on Apple’s Vision Pro headphones .

Having said that, Android has a much larger share of its market than iOS, except in markets like the United States, where the demand for iPhones is greater. In order to position Meta as an Android-like alternative in the mixed reality (XR) space, the company needs to continue to evolve its products and cater to audiences at different price points, which may give it some momentum.
