According to a new survey titled ‘The mood of India: An atmosphere of optimism’, a majority of India’s citizens have a positive outlook for 2024, with three key factors – national pride, technology and the economy – boosting optimism.
“The three factors were cumulatively the top-ranked sources of optimism for 85% of respondents,” the report said, following 1,565 in-depth citizen interviews in the Hindi belt through telephonic and Internet surveys.
The survey by Bharat Lab, a think-tank formed by the coming together of advertising agency Rediffusion and Lucknow University, found that over 62% of respondents displayed “positive sentiments”, 35% displayed a “confident balance”, and only 3% ” Clear pessimism for the coming year.
The survey cites work-life balance as “another key driver of optimism (with which India – unlike India – appears to struggle)”. The survey reports, “Good career prospects and positive personal Life circumstances together constitute the primary source of optimism for about 76% of Indians.”

Artificial intelligence – a topic of discussion at the center of global discussions – and elections are the top two “areas of interest for India in 2024”, when the country votes in Lok Sabha elections in the summer.
The survey says women will lead the growth in technology and gadgets. “Among respondents who chose tech and gadgets as their top interest in 2024, women outnumbered men 2:1. “66.5% of women chose technology as their top interest compared to 33.5% of men!” The survey found.

The report also said climate change topped the “list of fears at 33.5%”. War and recession were followed by 29.1%, although the global recession was a concern for only 16.2% of Indian citizens.
Dr. Sandeep Goyal, Co-Chair of The Bharat Lab, said, “The report documents the perspective of citizens of India in 2024, including their overall sentiment, sources of optimism, areas of concerns, expectations and monitoring, but it also is not limited to.” Said.

Finally, the report said, among the working public, married workers were more optimistic than unmarried ones. “Married individuals expect better economic conditions (58.13%) than unmarried individuals (39.3%). The report said unmarried workers express 56.17% optimism for personal growth, while married workers are even more positive at 66.27%.
