SThe Beckhams looked a bit like a high-fashion gangster family, standing in line dressed in (almost) all black and with faint smiles on their faces. Joint appearance in Paris on Monday. It’s probably not the sartorial reference they were going for – but it feels right for a tribe to come together after a tearful party made a public attack on their supremacy.
When David and Victoria’s son Brooklyn, 26, broke into the Beckhams’ showbiz world Horta last week with Instagram explosive claimsa problem immediately occurred. How will Britain’s media-savvy golden couple respond to the devastating onslaught, which their eldest son accused them of “prioritizing publicity and support above all else” and “endlessly seeking to undermine” in a series of high-profile accusations [his] Relationship with wife Nicola Peltz Beckham?
Will they offer their own rebuttal and risk being dragged into a social media spat? Will they dig out the wedding video to refute their son’s advice about Victoria? Dance by groom’s mother ‘very inappropriate’? Or will they follow the royal family’s “never complain, never explain” approach and continue business as usual?
For the Beckhams, it was definitely always the latter choice. Of course, they’re both seasoned pros when it comes to the art of taking photos to influence the agenda (remember when David and Victoria were paraded on the slopes of Courchevel amid accusations of an affair with Rebecca Lose?). They’ll know all too well that a smiling family snapshot is worth a thousand words (or, in Brooklyn’s case, 821 words).
In fact, it seems like it’s been business as usual for the family over the past week or so — with a few more fashion stars. The effect of all this? Making us feel stupid for even questioning whether Brooklyn’s statement would actually send this celebrity dynasty into chaos. Reports of Brand Beckham’s death appear to have been greatly exaggerated.
Victoria appears to have been a prime target of her son’s wrath due to the aforementioned dance, as well as accusations that her fashion brand stopped production of Nicola’s wedding dress at the “last minute.” But the Beckham matriarch managed to transcend it all with a clever (at least partially organic) strategy of bridging high and low culture.

Would Victoria have attended Emma “Hot Girl” Bunton’s 50th birthday party last weekend if Brooklyn hadn’t lobbed verbal grenades at the family brand? Most likely, yes. Friendship never ends, etc. Will she know very well a Pictures of her and her three hottie friends (Mel B went on her honeymoon) Might be a distraction? Yes. If there’s one carefully crafted strategy to ensure you win a spot among British millennials, it’s a Spice Girls reunion.
Indeed, in the wake of Brooklyn’s Prince Harry moment, the sense of nostalgia Victoria still evokes is rampant on social media, with fans sharing old dance clips from her short-lived ’90s solo career (it’s certainly not what her son had envisioned after that “inappropriate” jibe, but hey – peeing is a national sport across the Atlantic). Her 2001 song “Not Such an Innocent Girl” even topped the singles sales chart (beating the number six spot she had reached 25 years earlier).
The cogs in the Beckham machine may be grinding away behind the scenes, but you’ve got to hand it to them: they make it look easy
However, Monday’s events were a reminder that while Victoria may have started out as a somewhat scrappy pop star, she is now a respected fashion tastemaker. In a lavish ceremony held during Paris Fashion Week, the designer was awarded Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by French Culture Minister Rachida Dati in recognition of her contribution to the industry. Also on the guest list were Anna Wintour and Francois-Henri Pinault, president of luxury fashion group Kering.
Again, this date must have been on the calendar for months, but the timing was so perfect. The Beckhams really do a great job with such a large event. The children (except Brooklyn) all wore dark clothing, displaying a sartorial uniformity just like their mom and dad. Later posted a photo of them posing on Instagram with family In front of a lavish backdrop of chandeliers and gilded paneling, it feels like a very chic Power moves.

Romeo and Cruz’s girlfriends, Kim Turnbull and Jackie Apostel, who also attended the ceremony, also stayed true to their brand image, praising Victoria’s “kindness and respect” (according to Jackie) and “role model” status (according to Kim) in social media posts. There are no nightmarish mother-in-law narratives here; it’s hard not to read their words as a rebuttal to the Peltz-Beckham branch of the family.
Yes, the images and gushing soundbite arguably dovetail with Brooklyn’s attacks on “performative social media posts.” But, like the Beckhams, even if you have a sneaking suspicion that you might be being played, it’s easy to be drawn to their smiles, sparkling looks and identical children. Call it celebrity-induced cognitive dissonance, if you will. The cogs in the Beckham machine may be grinding away behind the scenes, but you’ve got to hand it to them: they make it look easy.
The only wild card in this family is 20-year-old Cruz, and that’s probably because he’s only 20 years old. The aspiring musician has been loving memes about his mum’s wedding dance, and earlier this week he posted a video clip showing him, his brother Romeo, 23, and their respective girlfriends in a Paris taxi. “Imagine the hate and here we are,” he wrote in the caption.

His cryptic words appeared to be an allusion to Brooklyn’s explosive statement (in which one of Beckham’s eldest sons claimed his brothers were “sent out to attack [him] on social media” and then blocked him “out of nowhere last summer”). Crucially, they were also vague enough to allow for a plausible denial — but Cruz (or possibly another member of the Beckham brand) seemed to have changed his mind, as the post was quickly deleted.
It’s not entirely a coincidence that Cruz and Romeo have also seemed to be making strides in their fledgling careers over the past few days. Romeo’s appearance at the Willy Chavarria show during Paris Men’s Fashion Week on Friday marked his latest foray into modeling (he has previously walked for the likes of Versace and Balenciaga).
Meanwhile, Cruz has just announced his first UK tour with his band The Breakers, as well as a European tour with stops in Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin. While the turmoil in Brooklyn was certainly difficult to deal with, it did bring some refracted attention to these individual efforts.
Victoria’s next big moment will be her fashion brand’s Fall/Winter 2026 show in the City of Lights in a few weeks. The “united front” strategy will undoubtedly remain in full force. Expect to see Beckham Family 2.0, and the associated plus numbers, sitting in the front row supporting. Never has any famous family understood the power of image so well.
