Andronis Luxury Suites is nestled on the caldera cliffs in the village of Oia, offering first-class service and sweeping panoramic views away from the crowds.

Place

Located in the popular northwest end greek islands of santorini Oia is filled with classic blue and white tones and is very beautiful. No wonder this village ranks among the most Instagrammed spots in the world. But there’s a downside: Its narrow lanes can get very crowded during peak season. However, there are some relaxing havens out there if you know where to look. Andronis Luxury Suites is one such place. Its airy white lobby sits just above a lively strip of marble-lined shops and restaurants – which, incidentally, are best explored in the early evening, after the bus has departed for the day.

Andronis has 39 suites and villas, most of which have private swimming pools of different sizes, as well as spacious terraces, with fragrant purple bougainvillea sprinkled on the walls warmed by the sun.

Still, it’s worth braving the crowds at least once to take a stroll at Ammoudi beach Swim and, if you’re into it, cliff-jump – but be warned: the descent is steep, and the ascent even steeper.

In a word: luxury. The hotel lives up to its name, from its sleek, minimalist lobby to its pioneering cave hotel concept when it opened in 2007. The hotel’s spaces are influenced by both design and geology – rooms are carved directly into the caldera cliff, accessed by a maze of steps behind a discreet gated entrance from the main walkway.

The decor is modern, soft, and simple, letting the scenery do the talking. It’s hard to imagine a better vantage point to admire the white caldera and cliffs plunging into the deep blue Aegean Sea.

The staff at Andronis are excellent and detail oriented. They easily carried my heavy suitcase up and down the seemingly endless stairs in 35 degree heat.

If you find that the firmness of your pillow isn’t to your liking, just call the concierge and they’ll be happy to change it for you.

Top-notch service is to be expected considering the large number of international clients the hotel attracts, but it’s still a nice thing every time a passing employee greets you with friendly “yassas.”

Andronis has 39 impressive suites and villas, most of which have private swimming pools of varying sizes, as well as a spacious private terrace with unobstructed sea views.

Some of the plunge pools are located on the hotel’s private walkways, and while you may hear the chatter of other guests, rest assured your privacy will be protected by thoughtfully planted bougainvillea.

While the exterior is undoubtedly the highlight of these suites, the interior is also noteworthy. Filled with various shades of beige, it’s a stylish blend of Mediterranean warmth and Scandinavian understatement that feels straight out of Pinterest.

The shower’s high domed ceiling and built-in wraparound bench evoke the meditative space of a dimly lit hammam, although zero windows also means zero natural light.

Don’t miss the tasting menu from chef Christos Karagiannis at Lycabettus restaurant. It offers elegant and creative dishes such as red shrimp tartare with green gazpacho and oyster emulsion with kohlrabi and caviar. It’s decadent, but that’s the point. The hotel cat, Cece, is an adorable dinner guest who will curl up at your feet while you finish your dessert and last glass of volcano wine.

There’s plenty to feast your eyes on, as Lycabettus is located on multiple levels along the cliff, meaning even tables that aren’t directly overlooking the edge can enjoy the view.

Miltos’ Greek Table is the hotel’s other more casual restaurant, specializing in Greek cuisine. The food is slightly unimpressive compared to Lycabettus, but the service and environment make up for it.

Miltos is situated on a raised terrace with nearly 360-degree views of Oia. Breakfast is also served there, and guests can choose from an extensive à la carte menu, ranging from yogurt bowls to sausage croissants.

Room service at Andronis reaches a rare level of indulgence: few experiences can compare to ordering eggs Benedict on your private terrace, with the deep blue Aegean Sea stretching below.

You’ll most likely spend most of your time lounging by your own private pool, but if you’re looking for a change or just a chance to people-watch, the hotel’s main infinity pool is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. It’s hard to believe you need to relax any further, but for that initial dose of relaxation, treat yourself to one of the many treatments at the Mare Sanus Spa – perfect if you’ve been fighting the crowds along the strip all day.
