Regina Doherty, a member of the European Parliament representing Ireland, announced the inquiry on Monday.

“This case raises very serious questions about whether platforms have met their legal obligations to properly assess risks and prevent the spread of illegal and harmful content,” Doherty said in an emailed statement.
The commission said earlier in January that sharing AI-generated images of naked women and children on X was illegal and shocking, drawing condemnation from around the world.
