International Cricket Council (international chamber of commerce) has rejected the request from Bangladesh National competitions to be moved elsewhere from India in upcoming tournaments T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh has demanded that the match be held in Sri Lanka as tensions with India have been raging for weeks. Calling into question the team’s involvement.

However, the ICC’s decision taken at the board meeting on Wednesday emphasized that Bangladesh will play in India as planned or else be replaced by Scotland. Team rankings based on next month’s World Cup.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) asked them not to travel to India citing security reasons. Earlier, Indian Premier League (IPL) Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman from his contract, seemingly instigated by attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and tensions between Dhaka and Delhi.

The T20 World Cup is already co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with all of Pakistan’s matches taking place in the island nation. There were reports that Pakistan supported the BCB’s appeal at a board meeting, but the ICC board concluded that there was “no threat” to Bangladeshi players, media personnel or officials if they traveled to India for matches.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on February 7, with Bangladesh taking on West Indies in Kolkata on the opening day. They are also scheduled to face England at the Eden Gardens on February 14, as well as games against Italy and Nepal.

An ICC spokesman said: “Over the past few weeks, the ICC has engaged in ongoing and constructive dialogue with the BCB, with the clear aim of getting Bangladesh to the World Cup. During this time, the ICC has shared detailed opinions, including an independent security assessment, a comprehensive venue-level security plan and formal assurances from the host authority, all of which unanimously concluded that there is no credible or verifiable threat to the security of the Bangladesh team in India.”

“Despite these efforts, BCB has maintained its stance and has repeatedly linked its participation in the tournament to a single, isolated and unrelated development involving one of its players’ participation in a domestic league. This link has no impact on the security framework of the tournament or the conditions for participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

“The ICC’s venue and schedule decisions are guided by objective threat assessments, host guarantees and the event’s agreed terms of participation, which apply uniformly to all 20 participating nations. The ICC cannot relocate the fixtures without any independent security findings that would materially compromise the safety of the Bangladesh team. Doing so would have significant logistical and scheduling consequences for other teams and fans around the world, and would also create far-reaching challenges related to precedent, potentially undermining the neutrality, fairness and integrity of ICC governance.

“The ICC remains committed to acting in good faith, upholding consistent standards and safeguarding the collective interests of the global movement.”
