Horror films have traditionally been excluded OscarBut Ryan Coogler’s vampire tale “The Sinner” could make history when nominations for the 98th Academy Awards are announced Thursday.

Nominations will be announced at 8:30 a.m. ET by hosts Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman. Viewers can tune in live on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, the Academy’s digital platforms and ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

No film has ever received more than 14 nominations – only “All About Eve,” “Titanic” and “La La Land” have done so. But “The Sinner” can top that mark with numerous nods for its craftsmanship, Coogler’s writing and directing, and Michael B. Jordan’s performance (which would be his first nomination).

Following closely behind is Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Fight,” which has sailed through awards season as the clear frontrunner. The father-daughter revolutionary comedy could be up for 14 nominations on its own, including five or even six for acting.

Regardless of the final outcome, Warner Bros. is poised to have its best Oscar win in the 102-year-old film company’s history. The Fight and The Sinner should lead Warner Bros. to record box office results, even as they prepare to sell them to Warner Bros. Netflix. Earlier this week, Netflix revised its $72 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery Channel into an all-cash offer that was higher than Paramount’s Skydance offer.

This year, the Oscars introduced a new casting category. This new honor will help The Sinner and Fight After Fight improve their already impressive numbers.

Ten films will be nominated for Best Picture. In addition to these two most popular films, there is also the Norwegian family dramaemotional value,” Shakespeare’s play “Hamnet” and table tennis adventure story “Marty Supreme” are expected to participate.

The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 15 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and will be televised live on ABC and Hulu. The new deal for exclusive broadcasts on YouTube won’t take effect until 2029. This year, Conan O’Brien will return as host.
